How to pursue M.Sc in Biotechnology in JNU?

To pursue M.Sc in Biotechnology course in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), one should complete their graduation in relevant discipline from any recognized Institute. Also, they should qualify the Combined Biotechnology Entrance Test held by Jawaharlal Nehru University. Candidates can get admission on the basis of entrance test score and availability of seats.

Eligibility requirements

Candidates having Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 pattern in any of the following subjects can pursue M.Sc in Biotechnology course offered by Jawaharlal Nehru University.

  • Agricultural Science
  • Biological Science
  • Engineering/Technology
  • Fishery Science
  • Pharmacy
  • Physical Science
  • Veterinary Science

Those who have completed 4-year B.Sc in Physician Assistant course are also eligible to pursue M.Sc course in Biotechnology. Candidates need to obtain the relevant undergraduate degree from any University/College approved by University Grant Commission (UGC). It is essential that the candidates need to obtain minimum of 55% marks for the qualifying degree.

Admission Procedure

For getting admission into M.Sc in Biotechnology course in Jawaharlal Nehru University, one should first of all appear for the Combined Biotechnology Entrance Test conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru University. Candidates can download the application form of the entrance test through the official website of Jawaharlal Nehru University. They should fill in the details as per the instructions specified in the Information Brochure. A demand draft of Rs. 600/- (Rs. 300/- for SC/ST/PH category) should be taken in the name of Jawaharlal Nehru University which should be payable at New Delhi.

Details of  demand draft such as DD number, Date of payment and Amount should be entered into the application form. Properly filled-in application forms should be sent to Section Officer (Admissions) in Jawaharlal Nehru University through registered post before the stipulated date.

Those who get qualified in the entrance test can receive a proforma from JNU to select the University for which they are going to apply. Candidates can select Jawaharlal Nehru University in that and send it to the University along with a demand draft of Rs. 5, 000/- (Rs. 2, 500/- for SC/ST/PH candidates) as security deposit. If there is any seats available for them according to their entrance test score, they can join the course on the date specified by the University. Security deposit will be forfeited if the candidates do not join the course or leave after 1st semester. It will be refunded if there are no seats available in the University too.
