Indira Kala Sangeet University, Khairagarh
The university was established in the year 1956 in Khairagarh in the state of Chhattisgarh, India. It is a member of AIU, that is, Association of Indian Universities. Khairagarh was a small princely state. Its king and queen donated their palace in 1956 so as to open a university dedicated to music, visual arts and dance. The name of the university is given after the deceased daughter of the king and queen, Indira Devi, who was fond of music but died at a young age. The place of Khairagarh is peaceful with no pollution like in the metros.
The university welcomes every student and scholar all over the world to join the University Research and/or study. The university has kept the priceless and oldest classical recitals in its listening room very carefully preserving the rich heritage. The presence of scholars of music, critics of arts, promoters of arts, musicians, actors and actresses acquits the best and the latest in the field of Indian classical, like in music, dance, literature, arts, visual arts and theatres.
There is a huge and rich collection of books, audiotapes, video slides and CDS of Indian masteries in these fields. Facilities for listening are also provided to the students of the university. The works of contemporary masters of India in the painting, folk artists, and tribal works from all over India are collected in the university. It has a mini gallery of musical instruments with instruments for classical and folk music. It also has a mini museum of archaeology having collection of archaeological art and other documentation from different regions. Separate hostels for boys and girls are provided with necessary facilities. Accommodation and teaching in English are provided to oversee students for their convenience.
The university has various departments dealing with different courses like the department of music, visual arts, folk music, dance and art.
