Berhampur University is situated in the state of Orissa and it was established in the year 1967 on the 2nd of January by the then Governor of the state. Initially, the university was inaugurated in a different campus and the present campus is spread over an area of 250 acres, which is 12 km away from the city of Berhampur.

The jurisdiction of the university is spread over a wide area comprising of colleges under districts of Boudh, Kandhamala, Malkangiri, Nowrangapur, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati and Ganjam. The colleges affiliated to the university is offering education under different disciplines like fine arts, library science, military science, nursing, ayurveda, homeopathy, pharmacology, engineering, medicine, law, commerce, science and arts. The university is awarded B+ status by National Assessment and Accrditation Council. It is a member of the Association of Common Wealth University of London and Inter Univeristy Board of Sri Lanka and India. The university has so far published 250 text books and research-oriented text books. In addition to conducting seminars on a weekly-basis on each department, it is also conducting conferences every year.
