The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda was established in the year 1949 and it is popularly known as M.S. University. The university is situated in the city of Baroda also called as Vadodara in the state of Gujarat. Originally, the university was established in the year 1881 in the name of Baroda College of Science and it was upgraded as university in the year 1949. The university was given its present name in honor of the earlier ruler of the city of Vadodara. This university is the only university in the state of Gujarat with course medium as English for all the courses offered. The main building is constructed in the style of Indo-Saracenic Architecture in the early 1840s. This building is a combination of Byzantine and Indian domes and arches in polychrome and brick stone. Another building at which the convocation hall of the university is located has dome that was modeled like the popular Gol Gumbaz.
