Rani Durgavati University is also known as University of Jabalpur and it is public university located in the state of Madhya Pradesh in India. The university is awarded with B++ grade by the NAAC and it is an important university in the city of Jabalpur. The university was formed in the year 1956 on the 12th of June under the Jabalpur University Act 1956. The university was shifted to its present location called as Saraswati Vihar in the year 1961.

The jurisdiction of the university is spread over the revenue districts of Jabalpur. Initially, the name of the university was actually University of Jabalpur, and it was given its present name in the year 1983 in honor of Rani Durgavati, who was a Gond Queen of Garha Mandla. Rani Durgavati University was reconstituted in the year 1995 and it was given jurisdiction over five revenue districts namely Narsinghpur, Balaghat, Seoni, Mandla and Jabalpur Districts. With the creation of Dindori and Katni as separate revenue districts, the number of revenue districts under the jurisdiction of this university raised to seven.

The campus of the university is spread over an area of 99.63 acres and the campus includes research and teaching buildings of physical education, system science, bio-science, mathematics, chemistry and physics departments. The other facilities in the campus include printing press, bank, post office, residential quarters, canteen, guest house, health center, hostels for boys and girls, computer center and central library.
