The foundation for the Azim Premji University lies in the experience and learning of decade of work in elementary education gained by the Azim Premji Foundation. Azim Premji University is one of the key responses to the challenges and constraints confronting the development and education sectors of the nation.

Azim Premji University is committed for development of outstanding programmes of advocacy, research and learning in education and allied developmental areas. The objective of the university are:

• To present an authentic alternative voice for social and educational change in the nation

• To serve as a national developmental and educational resource centre

• To significantly impact practice in the areas of development and education in the nation

• To contribute towards strengthening of existing professionals in the development and educational domains by creation of high quality continuing education programmes and learning content

• To significantly invest in research for expansion of frontiers of knowledge in development and education and continuously stretching the boundaries of the action and thought of the university

• To develop socially committed, creative and outstanding professionals for the development and education sectors in the nation

List of courses offered by Azim Premji University:

Azim Premji University offers only three courses at present and it is planning to introduce more courses in the future. The three courses presently offered by the university are:

• Master of Arts in Education

• Master of Arts in Development

• Master of Teacher Education

Eligibility for admission to these courses:

For the Master of Arts in Education and development courses, candidates must have completed their UG degree in any discipline. For seeking admission to the PG course offered by the university, candidates must have completed their PG degree in any discipline with not less than 55% of marks according to the norms of NCTE. Candidates with professional teaching certification with at least 55% of marks in courses like Master of Arts in Education, Bachelor of Elementary Education, Diploma in Education or Bachelor of Education or its equivalent qualification are also eligible to apply to the MTE course and candidates must also have two years teaching experience at pre-university or at school level.
