Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology came into existence on the 2nd of October 2000 and the university holds the pride of being the first agriculture university of the 21st century and the third millennium. The university is committed towards integration of educational research and extension in the field of agriculture with a view to serve the rural people. The university was inaugurated in the year 2002 on the 28th of March by the Chief Minister of the state of Uttar Pradesh. The university is approved by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

The government of Uttar Pradesh has mandated the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel with the responsibility of all around development of rural and agricultural community in the four divisions being Bareilly, Moradabad, Meerut and Saharanpur. These four divisions, has 15 districts namely Shahjahanpur, Saharanpur, Baduan, Muzaffarangar, Pilibhit, Meerut, Bareilly, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Rampur, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Bulandshahr, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Baghpat and Bijnor. Three out of nine agro-climatic zones in the state of Uttar Pradesh comes under the jurisdiction of this university. Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology offers education in two different faculties namely agriculture and biotechnology and the list of courses offered by the university is given below:

Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology admits students to the different courses through Combined Agriculture & Technology Entrance Test conducted at the state level. The entrance examination is organized on rotation basis by the Registrar of three agricultural Universities in the state of Uttar Pradesh. SVBP University of Agriculture & Engineering has entered into Memorandum of Understanding with several institutions like International Crops Research Institute of the Semi-Arid Tropics Alma Mater Studiorum-University of Bologna and Postgraduate Training and Research, International Rice Research Institute and International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center for ensuring development in the fields of agricultural education and research.
