Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University was previously called as Purvanchal University and the university got its present name in honor of the former chief minister of the state of Uttar Pradesh. The university came into existence on the 2nd of October of 1987 as an affiliating university.

The university began to offer two-year full-time Master of Business Administration course in the year 1990 and this brought about a great change in the character of the university since during this year, Purvanchal University was converted as an affiliating-cum-residential university as against its previous status of affiliating university alone. Since the university is offered the status of teaching university, it is offering courses through the departments functioning under in its own campus like department of computer applications, biochemistry, microbiology, environmental sciences, applied psychology, biotechnology, business economics, etc… The list of courses offered by Purvanchal University through its different departments is given below:

Admission of students to the B. Tech and MBA courses is done based on the marks secured by them in the UPSEE examination, while for other PG courses it is based on PUCAT score, except for M. Sc Biotechnology for which admission is done based on JNU Entrance Test.
