Law is set of rules the society has put forward to uphold order and protect people and their property from harm. The word law also refers to the practice by lawyers, who either defend or prosecute a client from an allegation of breaching the law. In order to become a lawyer, aspirants need to attend a law school and pass the examination. The Bachelor of law (LL.B) is degree course of 3 years which intends to provide legal education to students who are interested. In India there are various law schools which present 3 to 5 years integrated courses like B.A LL.B., B.B.A LL.B., B.Sc LL.B. etc.

Diploma courses in law

  • PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights Law.

Eligibility criteria

The Minimum qualification required for candidates for admission to the PG Diploma Courses excluding the Labour Law is a Bachelors degree from an acknowledged University. Candidates who wish to join the Labour Law course must have a law degree or M.A. in Social Sciences.

Postgraduate courses in law

  • Master of Business Laws (MBL)
  • Master of Law - Business Law (LLM)
  • Master of Law - Human Rights Law (LLM)

Eligibility criteria

Candidates who are interested to join the LLB courses should be a graduate or post- graduate with a minimum of 50% marks or an equivalent grade. Those who wish to join the LLM course should have a LLB degree.

Undergraduate courses in law

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB)

Eligibility criteria

The candidates should be a Graduate in the B.A / B.Sc / B.com degree with atleast 40% marks and 35% for candidates of the SC/ST category. For admission into this course, the candidates have to give an entrance test and a personal interview.

Career prospects

Lawyers have career opportunities both in public and private sector organizations. Lawyers who prefer advocacy and choose to practice law as a profession can be appointed as Judges, as Attorney and Solicitor General, as Public Prosecutor and also in Tax, Defense and Labor departments. They can also work as legal counsels and advisers for firms, organizations and families. Lawyers can find jobs as Company Secretaries in many firms. They also can work with legal consultancy firms dealing with excise, patent, labor and environmental laws or work as trustees of diverse trusts or as law reporters in media industries. In addition to that Lawyers can also work as teachers or professors at colleges and universities.  Global agencies like the UNO, ILO, and ICJ also take up Lawyers with good reputation and track records. The Salaries of attorneys who are experienced contrast widely according to the size, type and location of their employer. A qualified lawyer who is employed in the government department has salary according to the terms and conditions of the government. Those chosen as judges have excellent remunerations and other benefits offered by the government. Lawyers who prefer the private sector have more profitable pay packages. The earnings of lawyers working privately as consultant or advocate depend upon the number and character of their clients.

    Hi ! My name is Siddharth and I am studying in class 12th in
    Delhi with Commerce stream. I will be appearing for my board exams in March 2011 . I am interested to do undergraduate course in law. Please advise what is the system for applying in law collge and is there any written examination …..sports quota for admission, apart from minimum % age marks in 12 th board exams.
