Master of Arts or MA is a master’s degree offered to the students by the University for the students who do their higher study in any arts subjects. It includes all subjects other than Science subjects including study on regional and foreign languages, Humanities, Philosophy, Fine Arts, Music, and Mass Communication etc. In India and in Foreign Counties almost all Universities are providing Masters’ Degree for students. Kerala University, Alagappa University, Andhra University, Bangalore University, Jawaharlal Nehru University etc are some famous Universities in India offering Masters’ degree courses. There is an option for doing MA on Regular basis or do it as Correspondence education.

Eligibility Criteria for MA program

The candidates having the Bachelor’s Degree in the same subject of the MA program have the eligibility for applying for the course. In some colleges or University students have to attend some entrance test for getting the admission. The candidates who come across the entrance exam will have to attend a personal interview. The candidates who become achieve in the interview and test are eligible for admission of MA course.

Admission Procedure for MA program

An entrance exam is conducted by the University for selecting the best students for the MA program. The application form will be available from the College Office. Students can purchase it from the College itself. In some Universities there is an option for online registration; students can apply online in the University website. Otherwise the candidates have to send a request to the University for the Application Form and the DD for the form should be sent with the request, then the candidate can receive the application form by post.

How to fill in MA Entrance Application form?

The candidates have to understand the instructions in the information bulletin before start filling the application form. All information provided in the application form should be correct and any false information loses the chance of the candidate for attending the exam. The form will be filled using a ball point pen with the candidates own handwriting and send it with the DD to the University before the due date.

MA Entrance Exam Pattern

Each University follows their own pattern for conducting the Entrance Exam. The commonly accepted exam pattern followed by most of the Universities is that the duration of the test is two to three hours which contains about 70 objective type questions and some descriptive type questions are also there. The descriptive questions are based on the specialization selected for the MA Course.

MA course curriculum

The curriculum of the MA Course depends upon the specialization of Subject. The Master of Degree Course in Arts is a two degree course. In each Semester there are five papers to study. Each Semester includes class room lectures, Research, assignments, Projects, Seminars etc. The students have to clear all the papers for getting the MA Course Certificate

MA Course Evaluation

The MA students are evaluated on the basis of their performance in the external as well as internal exams. An examination is conducted at the end of each semester which covers all the topics they studied in that semester. The internal marks are given to the students considering their performance in the class room, assignments etc. The extra curricular works conducted by the students are also evaluated. At the end of the fourth semester, a Project Work is there for the students. Marks are awarded for the Project Report and for the viva conducted by the external examiners.
