Master of Computer Application which is commonly known as MCA is a course that requires good analytical and computing skills along with an inherent drive to know a lot about the magic box “the computers”. Tamil Nadu Open University offers a program in this discipline to a number of students at a much less fee. There are numerous colleges and universities in the country who offer this course.

What Is The Eligibility Criteria?

TNOU offers this course only to the students who have qualified their graduation with decent scores and from a recognized university. The medium of education at the bachelor level for eligible candidates must be English.

Duration Of The Course

The duration of the course is three years but in certain cases it can be maximally extended to duration of 8 years. English will be the medium of teaching for the candidates enrolling for the program in the said university. The pressure of the academics is high in the course but the fruits your labor will bear in future are also big and sweet. The course as usual is divided into three sections of one year duration and each year further divided into two semesters.

Subjects Which Are Taught

First Year

The subjects to be studies in the first year are   Computer Fundamentals, Introduction to Software, Data Structure through “C”, Elements of System Analysis and Design, Introduction to Data Base Management Systems, Introduction to Computer Organisation, Introduction to Software Engineering, Computer Oriented Numerical Methods, C++ and Object Oriented Programming and Theory of Computer Science.

Second Year

The subjects included in the second year of the course are Computer Graphics, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, Accounting and Finance on Computers, Communication Skills, Computer Net Works, Operation Research, Operating Systems, Object Oriented Analysis and Design, Internet Programming and Visual Programming.

Third Year

The third and the final year ease the academic pressure a bit but a project work is required to be completed before the course duration ends. The academic subjects that are taught in this year are Relational Data Base Management Systems, Client Server Technology, Multimedia Systems, Distributed Computing and Network Programming.
