Himachal Pradesh University is a premier teaching and research institute, wholly owned by the Government of Himachal Pradesh and the University Grants Commission. The university has an urban campus located at Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Urmila Singh, who is the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, is the Chancellor of the university. Professor ADN Bajpai is the Vice Chancellor of the university. The university has nearly 80 affiliated under graduate. post graduate and other colleges. The university was established in the year 1970 under an Act of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
