Pattern of M.Tech Entrance Exams

Most of the popular M.Tech entrance tests like (TANCET), Andhra Pradesh Post Graduate Engineering Common Entrance Test (PGECET) and Karnataka Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET) are written tests having objective type questions from relevant engineering discipline.

Tamil Nadu Common Test (TANCET) consists of three parts, from which Part I and Part II are compulsory for all engineering streams. Subjects from relevant engineering stream will be asked in Part III. Two hour duration will be given to attempt all the questions in Part I, Part II and Part III. But in the case of PGECET, there will be one paper having 2 hours duration. Questions will be from the relevant engineering discipline.

PGCET consists of 75 multiple choice questions which will be divided into 50 questions with one mark each and 25 questions with two mark each. This is the case of M.Tech entrance exams for some of the engineering disciplines. In other cases, 75 questions will be divided unequally into Part A and Part B, from which Part A is common to all relevant engineering disciplines. Part B will vary according to the concerned engineering stream. Duration specified for PGCET is 3 hours.

Candidates need to attempt each question in TANCET carefully as there is negative marking. But they need not worry about negative marking in the case of PGECET and PGCET.

Certain M.Tech entrance tests like GITAM Admission Test (GAT), All India Manipal University Online Entrance Test (MU-OET) etc. are online tests having multiple choice questions. Pattern of GAT is common for all engineering disciplines as it consists of questions from Reasoning and Intelligence, Numerical Data Analysis / Quantitative Analysis and Verbal Ability. But All India Manipal University Online Entrance Test (MU-OET) will have questions from the concerned engineering stream. Therefore the test pattern will vary according to the engineering discipline. Both GAT and MU-OET have duration of 2 hours.
