New alternatives for Schooling: Replacing the Traditional Practices
Schooling is an important phase in the every child’s life. The schooling period is so crucial because this is the time of mental development and character formation. At this period the parents and teachers take care of the child with needed consideration. When we consider the things in the national perspective majority of the expenditure and investments are happening in the education industry. This shows the national attitude and how crucial is the sector in the people’s lives.
The changes are also happening across the Indian education sector due to the global sway. As our country is in the race of nations having largest number of population and soon we hope to win that title, the investment stats in education sector is not enough to satisfy the demand. Government is trying hard to make sure of the quality and accessibility of the sector to every nationals. But having such a large population with so many social and economic classes it is very difficult for the Government to implement the policies effectively. These imbalances create a lot of anxieties and worries about the education of our children.
Schooling: The Major Issues
Today the parents are not sure about the quality of any institutions. Except for the professional programs, the Government schools are not anywhere in the list of preferable schools. The parents do much research before taking an admission for their child and there is a tendency to change the school after a period. Unlike the past, the students aren’t supposed to complete their schooling from one particular school; their certificate shows many names in the School’s column. The changes are frequent due to the doubt on the quality and teaching methods of a particular institution.
There is always concern about the syllabus and the curriculum in the schooling level and there is a lot of confusion among the central and state syllabus. It is observed that the student from the central syllabus perform well than that of the student with state background. After a long concern and discussions the State Government moves towards the application syllabi and then we found a mess in the teaching side.
The studies revealed that the friends circle contributes major part in the personality formation of the student and there is no guarantee that our children will get a group of good people, called friends. The students learn many of the bad habits from the school itself. Though the schools add to the social behavior of a child, we can’t predict whether it is in a good way or bad.
Hence the traditional brick-and-motor schools are unable to meet the needs and demands of the students and the Parents. In this place the alternative education come into place and now gaining popularity as a solution to the traditional disadvantages. The major alternative education modes are,
Learn From Home
Pursuing the education from the home is a very conventional practice in the Indian culture but normally leveraged to the upper society. The same concept is modified with the technology and came as an alternative mode for pursuing the education called home schooling. Here the parents are taking the responsibility of the education side of their child and the modern technology makes them capable for that.
The students can learn from their home itself, the most comfortable and safest zone for any. The parents can make it possible to provide a more suitable environment for learning and also give them the necessary attention and care. The home schooling allows the parents to regulate the syllabus of their child. It gives you as a parent to take your own method to teach your child, the way suitable for him/her. The major advantage of the home schooling is that the student will be through in each topic since there is no hurry to cover the syllabus. The parents are asked to update themselves with the curriculum that of the state, so that they will get a proper guidance and help to make sure your child is not left behind the traditional followers.
The critics of the home schooling are raising points against the system that, this alternative is not for every parent in our country, since it an alternative there is no problem in this part. The other issue is the social behavior of the student from the home schooling system. They said that such students will find difficulty in blending with the society and also there must be confusions in the learning side, because of the lack of expertise influence. Although these points are not enough to cutting down the increasing popularity of home schooling practices in India.
Distance Learning
The learning process is not limited to any age or there is no restriction in getting educated. The distance learning is not a modern concept but the technological advancement changes its face by the introduction of the online education in the country. Now the distance education is more about the online education.
Normally the people who have a tight working schedule, wanted to pursue the higher courses are looking for the distance mode of education. But today’s huge expense part for the higher education programs is also attracting many people towards distance education. The introduction of the online courses is offering flexibility in taking the desired degree for the aspirants. It makes the students to plan their own study time and there is no constraint of place and attendance. There are many online classrooms which provide the needed materials, discussions forums to clear the doubts, recordings of the lectures etc, that helps the learner to excel in his studies. The distance mode of education also helps the students to develop his/her methods of learning and a complete freedom in doing your course.
We can have the critics about distance or online education. Some of the analyzers say that it is not effective as that of the regular mode and the students can’t perform well as that of the traditional ones. But studies prove that it is a misconception and the learners in both modes are equal in a way or another. The accessibility of the modern technology and student freedom are also some other concerning matter for the critics.
In today’s competitive world we are looking more on the performance than the way of achieving it. It is output driven world. Like our Bhagavad-Gita says ‘your aim is important than the way’, whatever modes you choose, try to reap maximum benefit out of it than spending on the drawbacks…
