The job opportunities in this area are good and Civil engineering is one of the most lucrative branches to provide handsome money and maximum no. of job opportunities.

Paper Pattern:

The paper of Mechanics of Solids is a subjective one and all questions asked are of numerical as well as theoretical type. All questions asked are divided into 2 sections; section A is of 10 very short answer type questions, each of equal marks & there is no alternative in the questions and Section B is of 5 long answer type questions, each with its internal alternative & each is of equal marks. There are some questions which are needed to be solved with the help of suitable diagrams. 2 questions in the 2nd part are of short notes.

Frequently asked questions:

The paper is a compulsory paper in the 3rd semester. The university follows the same paper pattern every year.  Questions such as Poisson’s ratio, Modulus of rigidity, young’s modulus, Shear strain and shear stress, bending moment, Shear force, and section modulus of a beam section, assumption made in theory of simple bending, theory of torsion, closed and open-coiled helical springs, Elasticity, Brittleness, Stress – Strain Diagram etc. are asked frequently.

Total marks and time allotted:

Highest mark which can be obtained in the paper is 80 and time is 3 hours only. The questions in Section A are of 2 marks each and total marks are 20 whereas questions in 2nd part is of 12 marks each and total marks are 60.
