The electricity sector in India is expected to see a huge boom of nearly 8-9% massive amount of energy requirement. As a result of this the country is hoping to treble its electricity capacity to nearly 450 GW by the year 2020, from the present capacity of 160 GW, which indicates that nearly 20 GW has to be added every year to meet the goal of the sector.

At the present scenario, only public sector companies are dominating the power and energy industry in India and in the next decade private companies are also expected to enter this industry. The list of top companies in the energy and power sector in India is given below:

NTPC:

NTPC is a public sector undertaking with a capacity to generate nearly 33 GW of power and the company is planning to double its capacity by the year 2015. The main dependence of the company for power generation is on gas and coal, but now they are using solar power, nuclear power and hydel power as well for generation of power and energy.

NHPC:

NHPC is hydro power focused company and recently the stock values of the company came down due to lower profits and slower implementation of power projects. However, they are planning by all means to improve their power production in the next five years by focusing on hydel power generations in the states belonging to the northern part of India.

Tata Power:

Tata Power is one of the few power & energy companies in the private sector in India and they are engaged in the production of power through wind, solar, hydro and thermal energies. Their production capacity is 3 GW and they are in the process of building a number of power transmission and power generation plants in India.

Reliance Power:

Reliance power is the subsidiary of the popular Reliance group of companies and they have great expansion plans in the power and energy sector in India. They are presently engaged in the construction of 34000 MW project and they are also planning to build a plant with a capacity of 35 GW and planning to use coal, gas and hydel as base for power generation.

Adani Power:

Adani Power is a subsidiary of the popular Adani Group with a power generation capacity of 1980 MW. They are the holders of India’s only supercritical power plant operating in the state of Gujarat. Their power plants are in different stages of construction and currently they have power projects at the states of Rajasthan and Maharashtra.

Damodar Valley Corporation:

Damondar Valley Corporation shortly called as DVC are engaged in the operations like distribution and transmission of electric power, generation of power, irrigation and flood control. They have power stations at Panchet, Maithon and Tilayia with a generation capacity of 144 MW.

Lanco Infratech:

Lanco Infratech is based in the state of Andhra Pradesh and they are among the top private sector power generation company with a capacity of 2 GW power generation. They are also presently engaged in the generation of 18 GW power capacity plant and they have recently acquired two popular companies namely Carpenter Mine Management and Griffin Coal Mining Company.

SJVN:

SJVN holds the second position in the top hydel power generation companies in India and this company was established through an agreement between the Government of India and Government of Himachal Pradesh. They are the owners of the largest hydro plant in India.

These companies contribute not only towards the power requirement of the people of India, but also offer a wide range of employment opportunities to the people.

    My name is Rakesh Chaudhari and i designed new renewable power system which working from sum storaged water circulation and drive big (7 to 10MW) generator . it is not required any type of fuell ,water dams or air flow . it is new source of GREEN ENERGY. it is easy to install any type of place . i am interested for give my design to big power company .
