Indian Institute of Technology- Vinod Gupta School of Management was the first business school of management to be setup within the IIT campus. The school conducts an admission process for its MBA programme. VGSOM-IIT-KGP was set up in the year 1993. It provides state of art infrastructure and campus facility to its students. There is no doubt in the credibility of IITs in the field of technical education but VGSOM as a management school also ranks among the top management institutes in the country according to various surveys.  The foundation stone of the School building was laid in 1994 by the then president of India, Mr. Shankar Dayal Sharma.

About Institute:

This business school is ranked 12th by the Wall Street Journal. By a survey of open Magazine the school is featured in the top 15 B-Schools of India. Recently this institute is ranked 13th amongst the top government B-Schools by HT-Mint and Cfore survey. The School was moved to the new building in December of 1996 and over the years the school has moved beyond the sphere of regular MBA program.

Campus:

The school provides cutting edge infrastructure for the students. It provides a central library which is one of the largest libraries in Asia and has a collection of about 365,000 books, 1,700 CDs  and  videos, 1,500 journals  and  44  national  and international  scholarly  databases.  This school also provides separate hostel and all rooms have internet nodes that connect to a 100 Mbps LAN.

Location:

The school is located at a distance of 116 kms south-west of the metropolis of Calcutta and is well connected by rail to the entire four metropolises as it lies on the Howrah-Bombay, Howrah-Madras and Delhi-Puri line. The Institute is situated 4 kms away from the Kharagpur Railway Station.

Placement:

Students have been placed in various leading companies like Wipro, TCS, CTS, Satyam and also other companies.

Admission Details:

For admission to the MBA programme of VGSOM candidates have to appear in JMET-2011(Joint Management Entrance Test) like all for all IITs MBA programmes. In addition candidates have to apply separately for IIT Kharagpur-VGSOM. Students shortlisted through JMET are called for Personal Interview and Group Discussion for final selection.

Eligibility Criteria:

A candidate should have a first class Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology OR Master’s degree in Science/ Economics/ Commerce with Mathematics or Statistics as a subject at a Bachelor’s level. There will be relaxation of 5% marks or equivalent in CGPA for SC/ST candidates.

Application Forms:

The form will be available through post by sending a request for the form to Deputy Registrar (PGS&R), IIT Kharagpur. After receiving the form candidates have to send the filled form along with a demand draft of Rs. 1000(Rs. 500 for SC/ST/PH) in favor of ‘IIT Kharagpur’. Candidates can also download the application form online.
