National Institute of Technology, Silchar invites application for various courses such as B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc and PhD in various disciplines each academic year. The institute considers scores of national level entrance exams like AIEEE for the admission process. Admission to M.Tech programmes is based on GATE score and through Centralized Counseling for M. Tech. (CCMT). Non GATE students having good academic performances are also eligible to apply for M.Tech programmes. PhD admissions are based on the marks in the qualifying examination and performance in personal interview.

Admission process for B.Tech

Admissions are open to students from entire North Eastern States. Candidates who have completed their higher secondary exam from the states of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Tripura with a valid AIEEE score are eligible to apply. Admissions are based on the performance in AIEEE exam as well as marks obtained in the higher secondary exam. 15 % of the seats are reserved for SC category students, and 7.5 % seats are allotted for ST category students. Physically handicapped candidates are eligible for reservation as per the government rules.

Admission for M.Tech and M.Sc programmes

Admission to Master in Technology and Master of Science programmes is based on Centralized Counseling for M. Tech/M.Plan. (CCMT). Admission process is carried out in the month of July, every year.  Candidates can apply online from the official website of CCMT. The application fee is Rs.1500/- for general category and Rs. 1000/- for reserved category candidates. Applicants should have a valid GATE score card. Non GATE students with good academic performances can also apply for the admission process.

Candidates with 60% marks in Bachelor of Engineering/ Technology degree are eligible to apply for Master in Technology programmes or Master in Computer application. Final selection of the candidate will be based on the performance in personal interview.  The official website of the institution will contain the detailed information regarding the admission process.

Admission for PhD programmes

Institute conducts admission to PhD programmes in the months of January and July, every year. Students having 70% marks in Masters Degree or Bachelors degree in Engineering or Technology are eligible to apply for PhD Programme in Engineering Departments. Students seeking admission in Science departments should have Master degree in relevant subjects with 60% marks. Candidates are required to have Master degree with a minimum of 55% marks for admission for PhD programmes in Humanities and social science departments.
