Admission Process in NIT, Srinagar

National Institute of Technology, Srinagar, offers B.Tech and M.Tech programs in diverse streams. Admissions to B.Tech courses are done on the basis of AIEEE or ISEET. Those who seek admission to M.Tech courses should go through a centralized counseling process. This centralized counseling process is organized by NIT council on behalf of 20 NIT’s of the country.

Admission Process for B.Tech Courses

Last year admissions to B.Tech courses were carried out according to the score obtained in AIEEE. From next year onwards AIEEE may be replaced by ISEET. Eligible candidates must submit their X class certificate, XII class marks sheet and certificate at the time of admission. Other documents need to be produced at the time of joining are

  • Score card of Entrance Exam
  • Category Certificate and Physically Challenged Certificate (If applicable)
  • 16 passport size photographs
  • Character certificate and Discharge certificate from the institution last attended

Admission Process for M.Tech Courses

Admission to M.Tech courses are done through a centralized counseling process. During the process, NIT Srinagar along with other 19 NIT’s can carry out their admission. As decided by the NIT Council, counseling process is conducted by Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur. Merit list is prepared on the basis of GATE score obtained in the year of 2011 or 2012. Marks obtained by the candidate in qualifying examination (B.E/B.Tech) are also considered during counseling. Engineering graduates must possess minimum 65% marks in to participate in counseling. This is the eligibility criterion mentioned for open category candidates. Those belonging to OBC group need to have minimum 60% marks where as SC/ST category students must possess minimum 55% marks.

Eligible candidates can have admission through a three step process. Main process involved in admission is

  • Online registration
  • Online Seat Allotment
  • Admission in the Allotted Institute
  • Online Registration

Eligible candidates should first of all register with CCMT (Centralized Counseling for M. Tech/M. Plan). Registration can be made through the official website of CCMT, http://www.ccmt.in. The website displays details on the participating institutes and the number of seats available in each department. Based on this, candidate can fill as many numbers of choices in the order of their preference. Those who prefer to study in NIT, Srinagar can make their choices as such.

Online Seat Allotment

In this session, the concerned authority processes the choices submitted by the candidate. Allocation of seats is made in the order of merit and on the basis of candidate’s choice.

Admission in the Allotted Institute

Candidates, who got selected through the above mentioned steps, should report physically to the allocated institute. Those who get selection to NIT Srinagar should approach the institute with relevant documents necessary for admission.
