Thapar University provides an opportunity to the diploma holders to join the 2nd year of B.E course through the lateral entry scheme.

Eligibility for B.E. in Civil Engineering Lateral Entry in Thapar University

Following are the eligibility criteria for the lateral entry admission to B.E in Civil Engineering.

  • The students must have passed either 3-year diploma course after 10th or a 2-year diploma course after 12th in the relevant subject.
  • The students from general category must have scored at least 60% in the qualifying exam.
  • The SC/ST students require a minimum of 55% marks in the qualifying exam.
  • The applicant must have a good moral character.
  • It is a must for the candidate to be an Indian citizen.

Reservation for Lateral Entry in Thapar University

In Thapar University, a total of 8 seats are allocated for the lateral entry admission in Civil Engineering. Out of these, 25% seats are allotted to SC/ST candidates and 5% seats to BC students. This means SC/ST students have a reservation of 2 seats, BC candidates have got 1 seat and the remaining 5 seats are allotted to the general students.

Applying for B.E. in Civil Engineering Lateral Entry in Thapar University

Thapar University conducts Lateral Entry Engineering Test (LEET-TU) for selecting eligible students to the second year B.E course. The application form for the test has to be downloaded from the official website of Thapar University, which is http://www.thapar.edu/. The exam pattern consists of two parts including technical and general questions. The entrance test includes a total of 150 questions. The test has to be finished within 3 hours. The first part includes 60 questions from English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. The second part consists of 90 questions from the core subjects in Civil Engineering. Negative marking for incorrect answers shall be there. One mark will be awarded for each correct answer whereas ΒΌ marks will be reduced for each wrong answer.

Advantages for Lateral Entry Students in B.E. in Civil Engineering

It is advantageous for the students to choose B.E after completing the diploma programme. They can join directly to the second year of the engineering course. Thus, they are able to finish the degree in 3 years. The lab experiments will be easier for these students compared to others as they would have already undergone practical training during their diploma course. Since diploma is an additional qualification to these students, they get more preference during the campus recruitment.
