Diploma holders in Chemical engineering or related subjects have the provision to get into lateral entry programmes for the same, offered by Kerala University. Through this scheme, students can get in to 2nd year of the engineering studies. They have to study only three years to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Engineering. Eligibility for Chemical Engineering through Lateral Entry in Kerala University

Those applicants who have a pass certificate in Diploma program carried out by the State Board of Technical Education or equivalent will be eligible for applying the Lateral entry. Minimum of 60% marks is obligatory for this qualifying examination. SEBC applicants are offered with 5% reduction in marks. Admissions by means of lateral entry scheme are possible only for those who are 28 years of age. Non – Keralite candidate’s admissions for this course are limited to self-financed institutions. Final year College going students who are in their last semester and attempting the examination are also eligible to apply.

Out of the total seats offered for lateral entry:

  • 15% seats are reserved for self-financed or Management Colleges.
  • 50% seats are reserved for DTE
  • 50% of the total seats are held in reserve under management if the institutions are self-financed.

Applying for Chemical Engineering through Lateral Entry in Kerala University

The application forms can be obtained from the various Distribution Centers specified in information brochure. Those candidates who are classified under General category can obtain the application form by paying an amount of Rs, 500/- . The rest of the applicants belonging to reserved category have to pay an amount of Rs.250/- as application fee. This fee can be submitted in the form of Demand Draft (DD). The DD has to be taken in favor of the Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology from any of the Nationalized Bank in India.

Majority of the Questions of the Entrance examination for lateral entry is from the first year course outline of the Engineering program. To pass the entrance test each candidate has to score a minimum cut off of 20% marks.
