Courses and Admission Process in SMCA (Thapar University)

MCA, M.Tech (Computer Science & Applications), M.Sc in Mathematics and Computing, etc are some of the courses offered at School of Mathematics and Computer Applications (SMCA). Through eligibility requirements to join each of the courses differs, admissions are usually done on the basis of entrance test conducted by Thapar University. For M. Tech. (Computer Science and Applications), engineering graduates/M.Sc/MCA holders can apply. Entrance test conducted for admission to the course comprises of 75 questions which must be completed within time duration of 1 and half hours.

Admission Process in SMCA (Thapar University)

Graduates can seek admission to MCA course on the basis of an entrance test conducted by the University. Such candidates must have studied mathematics as a subject either at 12th or degree level. Entrance test for MCA comprise of a total of 150 questions. Time allotted for the completion of the test is 3 hours.

Engineering graduates or M.Sc holders in any of the following subjects can apply for M. Tech. (Computer Science and Applications) course.

  • Mathematics and Computing
  • Operation Research
  • Physics
  • Statistics

Required qualification must be obtained with a minimum of 50% marks. Admission to the course is made on the basis of a valid GATE score.

Those who have completed 12th class studies with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks can apply for BCA-MCA and B.Sc + M.Sc courses. The aggregate marks must be obtained in any of the three subjects of physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. Admissions are made on the basis of an entrance test (conducted by Thapar University) that includes 75 questions for time duration of 1 and half hours.

BCA + MCA and B.Sc + M.Sc are dual degree programs having duration of 5 years. After completion of the first three years, these candidates have the option of join to second year of B.Tech/B.E or MCA course. For such lateral entry admissions, candidates need to qualify an entrance test conducted by the University.

Bachelor’s degree in Science with mathematics as one of the subjects is the required qualification for M.Sc (Mathematics and Computing). The qualification must be obtained with a minimum of 50% marks. Here also, marks obtained in entrance test (conducted by Thapar University) forms the criteria for admissions.
