The Fast Track Scheme for Young Scientists is provided for young scientists by the Department of Science and Technology. The main intention of this scheme is to encourage scientists to undertake independent research in recently flourishing and frontier areas of science and technology. Aspirants who get selected for this scheme are given every type of help by the department to find innovative technologies by the Science and Engineering Research Council. The details about this scheme are given below.

Fast Track Scheme for Young Scientists Eligibility

Applicants must have any of the following degrees:

  • PhD in Basic Science
  • PhD in Engineering/Technology
  • PhD in Medicine/Surgery
  • PhD in Pharmacy
  • PhD in Veterinary Science
  • PhD in Agricultural Science

Masters degree in:

  • Engineering/Technology
  • Medicine/Surgery
  • Pharmacy
  • Veterinary
  • Agriculture

Applicants must not be above 35 years of age when they submit the application.

Fast Track Scheme for Young Scientists Relaxation

Scientists who belong to the SC/ST/OBC group or are physically handicapped will receive a 5 year age relaxation. This facility is available to women applicants too.

Funding of Fast Track Scheme for Young Scientists

  • The funding, a maximum amount of Rs. 17 lakhs shall be provided for the total period of 3 years.
  • The funds shall be provided for consumables, lab equipments and travel. In case the applicant is not a permanent member of the organization or does not draw any salary/fellowship have the provision to draw Rs.20, 000/- each month.  Applicants who have a regular position can seek manpower at the junior level.

Application Form and Fee

  • The applicants must fulfill all the eligibility criteria as mentioned in the prospectus.
  • Applicants shall receive a maximum amount of Rs.17.00 lakhs. The period is 3 years.
  • Aspirants must develop a good scientific proposal. This proposal must include significant novelty and ought to lead to the fortification of scientific knowledge.
  • Projects that are based on Recombinant DNA work must be certified by the Institutional Biosafety Committee.
  • Project experiments that are based on human or animal subjects  must be certified by the Institutional Ethics Committee.
  • All information that is important must be given in the proposals text itself.
  • Applications that are incomplete will not be considered.
