I am doing btech ece VLSI is field of immense potential and application and as we walk towards the era of "internet of things",the scope of it has never been so huge. With respect to pure application software, VLSI salary is atleat 1.5x to 2x more. It being a niche area, the overall respect this profession command is higher than other domains. There is no best stream in VLSI as all are required to get a chip out in foundry. Largely the streams are either more closer to transistor level design or code based design(high level circuit description language) and where one should go based on ones interest and competency level. |

We are a semiconductor startup and looking to build a strong bench of trainee engineers through this training. But couldn get into IT job, for 2 years worked as IT recruiter. Now i'm interested in doing any VLSI course and shaping up my career again. Can i get a lob after doing this course in this field? If i'm sure to get a job only i'll invest in the course. so please guide me. Totally confused wat to do in life. Also have a depressing feeling like i studied BE and now idle at home. Later they use their references to help them in placements. As all of you must be knowing that getting a job in vlsi is not easy, specially for BE/Btech. All selections happens based on entrance test of the short-listed ppl and the short listing happens thru refferals. They know in & out of the industry as they are designers in MNC's. They do not charge hefty fees as done by other institutes. Big institutes concentrate on tools mainly and quote that as the reason for high fees. The reality is that a fresher is not expected to have tool knowledge, but concepts and understanding is more important. Tool can be learnt any time. Various companies use tools from different vendors like cadence, synopsys etc. and no one is expected to know them. Its good to know but not must, but concepts are must to know.
