Re: What is Metadata in Java? Metadata is used with two concepts in java: 1.A metadata standard is defined by a set of Java interfaces belonging to a specific package and its sub-packages 2.metadata in spring. Metadata is the data that describes your spring beans and their methods. |

Given that metadata is a set of descriptive, structural and administrative data about a group of computer data (for example such as a database schema), Java Metadata Interface (or JMI) is a platform-neutral specification that defines the creation, storage, access, lookup and exchange of metadata in the Java programming language. The JMI specification was developed under the Java Community Process and is defined by JSR 40 (a JSR is the formal document that describe proposed specifications and technologies for adding to the Java platform). JMI is based on the Meta-Object Facility (or MOF) specification from the Object Management Group (or OMG). The MOF is a metamodel (a model of any kind of metadata) used notably to define the Unified Modeling Language (or UML). It supports the exchange of metadata through XMI. XMI is a standard for exchanging metadata information via Extensible Markup Language (or XML). The MOF/XMI specifications are used for the exchange of UML models. |

HI dear, The definition for META DATA In JAVA:- Most JDBC programs are designed to work with a specific database and particular tables in that database; the program knows exactly what kind of data it is dealing with. Some applications, however, need to dynamically discover information about result set structures or underlying database configurations. This information is called metadata, and JDBC provides two classes for dealing with it: DatabaseMetaData and ResultSetMetaData. Thanks |

Re: What is Metadata in Java? hello dear see, Java Metadata is nothing but the Interface standard for metadata management. it is known as Java Metadata Interface (JMI). The JMI specification enables the implementation of a dynamic, platform-independent infrastructure to manage the creation, storage, access, discovery, and exchange of metadata. JMI is based on the Meta Object Facility (MOF) specification from the Object Management Group (OMG), an industry-endorsed standard for metadata management. The MOF standard consists of a set of basic modeling artifacts described using UML. Models of any kind of metadata (called metamodels) can be built up from these basic building blocks. JMI defines the standard Java interfaces to these modeling components, and thus enables platform-independent discovery and access of metadata. JMI allows for the discovery, query, access, and manipulation of metadata, either at design time or runtime. The semantics of any modeled system can be completely discovered and manipulated. JMI also provides for metamodel and metadata interchange via XML by using the industry standard XML Metadata Interchange (XMI) specification. all the best........... |
