Sir, I have applied for AFCAT Technical Branch. I meet all the requirements but I have Eye Sight and wear Glasses. My Myopia is -2.00 in left eye and -2.15 in right eye and 6/36 with out glasses and 6/9 with glasses. Am I eligible to join Technical Branch or will I have any problem in Medical examination. Minimum eyesight required for Indian Army :

The candidate need 6/6 eyesight and should have no color blindness.

But with this you must have these criteria also :

1.You must be an Indian.
2.You should pass 10+2 examination.

Eye eligibility require to join Indian Air Force is below mention.
Vision : There are different visual standards specific to different trades. However, the common minimum visual standards acceptable for some of the trades are :-

(i) Unaided vision : 6/36 for each eye

(ii) Correctable with spectacles : at least 6/9 for each e (iii) Dioptectric power : not exceeding + 3.5 Dioptres including

Astigmatism.

(iv) Field of Vision : Full
(v) Colour perception : Minimum CP-III
(vi) Corneal Surgery : PRK/LASIK is not acceptable

Note : Indian Air Force (Police) & Indian Air Force (Security) trades require 6/6 vision for each eye unaided and CP-II i.e. no use of spectacles permissible for these trades.

Airmen in Group 'Y' Trades : The minimum qualifications for recruitment as Airmen is Matriculation / Intermediate or equivalent examination (including 10+2) with a minimum 50% marks and pass marks in English.

Eligibility : Only unmarried male Indian citizens as also citizens of Nepal are eligible for recruitment.

Height : Minimum 152.5 cm.

Mechanical Driver : 165 cm (162.5 cm for candidates belonging to Uttaranchal and North Eastern States) with minimum leg length of 99 cm.

Ground Training Instructor : 167 cm (162.5 cm for candidates belonging to Uttaranchal and North East.

IAF (Police) : 175 cm.

Chest : Minimum expansion of 5 cm. Weight Corresponding to height and age.

Vision : Unaided 6/36, corrected with glasses 6/36, corrected with glasses 6/9 for each eye [For IAF (Security & Police) unaided vision is 6/6].

Hearing : Able to hear forced whisper at 6 minutes with each ear separately.

Written Test : Candidates have to qualify both in English & Mathematical Reasoning papers.

The successful candidates have to undergo a Physical Fitness Test which includes a 1.6 km run to be completed in maximum of 8 minutes. Candidates qualifying in PFT have to undergo medical examination by the Air Force Medical Team as per IAF Medical Standard.

Airmen in Tech (Intermediate) Trades X Groups : Unmarried male Indian citizens are subjects of Nepal between 16 - 22 Years of age can apply for Airmen in Tech (Intermediate) Trades.

The minimum educational qualification for these trades is Intermediate (10+2) or equivalent examination with Physics, Maths & English with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. Medical standards are the same as for Airmen in Group 'Y'.

Vision Standards for the Flying Branch SSC:

Visual Acuity 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other, correctable to 6/6 only for hypermetropia.
Manifest Myopia - Nil.
LASIK Surgery for correction of vision is admissible in Transport and Helicopter streams of Short service Commission (Flying Branch)

In Air Force there are two Fields in which you can work for. One is Ground Officer and Another one is Flying officer.

Apart from that different color standard are also adopted that are specific to different trades.
