Re: M.Sc in Microbiology or M.Sc in Biotechnology: Better course? The Indian market is expanding rapidly for Medical Sciences. This sector is becoming one of the largest recruiters. It contributes 5% of India's GDP which is increasing by 15% every year. Microbiology focus into prevetion and treatment of diseases. I would suggest you to do MSc. After completion of M.Sc in Microbiology you may enter in Pharmaceuticals Industries. Or if you study further PhD. it will lead you to scientific jobs. As a fresher you will be working as a loboratory assistants and research microbilogists. In India itself you may earn a starting salary of Rs.18,000 per month as a fresher in research and development organisation and in health sectors. This tends to rise quickly as you a year experience. In countries like USA you may earn $6000 per month depending on your skills and capabilities. |

But most of the students are interested to take M.Sc in biotechnology but not in Microbiology. My suggestion is also to take M.Sc in biotechnology. If you take Microbiology the entire subject seems to be so dry. But biotechnology is not like that. It involves so many techniques which are the techniques of present generation like electrophoresis which will be so interesting to the students. So command over biotechnology will fetch you a bright job. From job prospects point too, bio technologists are being given more preference and high salaries than microbiologists. |

Hi, I dont think there is no curse better then other both the courses are very good it basically depends on your choice and the subject you have done your B.Sc. or Bachelor degree after microbiology you can join as microbiologist in any major food company, you can join chemical plants, iron furnes and many more apart from that you can also start your own food processing unit also you can go for clinical research. With a MSc in Biotechnology you are more likely to head into a position as a Technician, Scientific Associate, or to continue on in graduate studies to get your PhD. MSc's often find themselves in a good position to take on a teaching position either at the high school or trade school level as well. So its up to you Best of luck |
