If you want to join a course in biotechnology you must have a background in science, that is Physics or agriculture, chemistry and biology at the intermediate level can join for B.Tech. In India, some universities offer the B.Sc biotechnology which one can join after class 12 or equivalent examination, with physics, chemistry and mathematics. Graduates in all sciences/engineering technology/medicine are eligible for the postgraduate (M.Sc.) course in biotechnology. Programme in Biotechnology. P.G. courses available are M.Sc. Biotechnology, M.Sc. (Agriculture) Biotechnology, M.V.Sc. (Animal) Biotechnology, M.Tech. Biotechnology,M.Sc./M.V.Sc.in Veterinary Biotechnology, M.Sc.(Marine) Biotechnology,Medical Biotechnology, M.Tech.in Biomedical Engineering/Biotechnology.Depending upon the aptitude and necessity, more advanced courses such PH.D.and Post-Doctoral Research in Biotechnology can also be pursued. |

Re: Biology in 12th necessary to study b.tech in biotechnology? dear friend, No, my friend there is no such criteria.. u just only have maths,physics,chemistry in your 10+2..As you are interested to do btech in biotechnology, then you can go for it.. but, I want to say some thing to you, as you have interest in biotechnology field then why you don't want to take biology in your 12th.. if you don't have interest in biology, then i will suggest you to take biology as your 4th subject.. It will help you a lot in biotech. field... all the best.. |

Biotechnology is a research type of field so, you need to quire too much knowledge and very clear base. |

Since biotechnology is a part of technical study so before taking admission to any biotech college you should have a basic knowledge about biology . As we can see the case of Engg. the minimum eligibility is 10+2 with PCM. Since some colleges will doesn't bother about this so it may be possible to get admission without bio. |

Candidates who have opted for PCM as there main and Biology as an Optional he/she can also opt for B.Tech Biotech. For Example:- In AIEEE you have to appear for PCM, after cracking the entrance if you also have Biology then only you can opt for B.Tech (Biotech). Students with PCB as there main and MAthematics as optional can also go for B.sc, B.Tech in Biotech. But for such candidates who wanted to opt for B.Tech he/she have to go through entrance like- VITEEE, KIITEE, and other entrance of there own state. |

The subjects in 12th you must opt for are physics, chemistry, biology. Maths in this case is optional for you i.e you may take it as a main subject. Tech in Biotechnology for maths students. The course is offered in some of the IITs as well. So, prepare well for IIT-JEE and AIEEE. Thank You |

The same subject combination is required in both b.tech and Integrated M.tech in biotechnology. |
