Re: What is the plasma and what is its use? Plasma is ionized gas. The atoms of the substance comprising it are so active that their outer electrons are mobile. (The ionization can be from heat or electrical discharge.) It can transfer heat and conducts electricity. It is what glows in Neon signs and discharge lamps. It can be used to deposit thin coatings or to cut solid materials. The flame of an air/gas torch is a plasma. So is the arc of an electric welder. note -plasma is considered the 4th state of matter after Solid, Liquid, Gas. |
