Re: What is the procedure of SET-NET exam?

SET and NET both exams are for lecturer job in government colleges. While UGC-NET is for lecturer job in central government colleges, SET exam is conducted by each state separately for the lecturer job in state government colleges.

Those who want to become lecturer are required to appear in the National Eligibility Test or SET exam. However before they can appear in the exam you will have to complete post graduate degree in any course.

National Eligibility Test is one of the most difficult entrance exams in India. Every year more than 3 Lakh candidates appear in the NET exam but only very few manages to crack it and get the lecturer job.

Therefore it is very important to prepare hard for the NET exam. Study lots of model and previous years papers at the same time take several mock test available online to esure you are prepared in the best way possible. You can also go for professional coaching to prepare for National Eligibility Test. This would be very handy for you.

Eligibility for NET

To appear in NET exam, candidate must be Indian Citizen.

You must have completed post graduate degree in any stream from a recognised university.

Your percentage for post graduate course should be 55 percent.

Candidates from SC/ST require at least 50 percent marks in post graduate course in order to appear in NET exam.

Those who are in final year of post graduate course can also appear in NET exam.

However they will have to submit the degree within 2 years of passing the NET exam and should be minimum percentage requirement. Failing to do so, such candidates would be disqualified.

You will have to choose the same subject of your post graduate course for the NET exam.

There is no upper age limit for lecturer job.

As far as the eligibility for SET is concerned its mostly the same. Please remember that candidate who has cleared NET exam can not get lecturer job in state government colleges. Similarly candidate who has cleared SET can not get lecturer job in central government colleges.

To check the eligibility of interested candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowships and for lectureship post University Grants Commission conducts an examination every year which is known as the UGC National Eligibility Test.

Just like NET, SET exam's objective is very similar except for the fact that this exam is conducted by the respective state and the NET exam is conducted at a national level.

UGC conducts this examination twice every year. Once during the month of June and again in December. The test is conducted for seventy seven subjects.

From among the candidates who have applied both for JRF and Lectureship post only the meritorious candidates will be chosen for the fellowship program. So you have to qualify for the lectureship post to be considered for the program.

If you can secure minimum 55 percent of marks at post graduation level from a recognized university or institution then you are eligible to sit for this examination.

For the SC/ST and physically handicapped candidates the percentage to secure is 50 percent of marks.

Even final year students who will be appearing for the examination or awaiting the result can also sit for this exam. In that case you will be give provisional admission. After getting the NET result you have to complete your P.G. degree or otherwise you will be disqualified.

If you are a PhD degree holder then you are entitled to get a relaxation in percentage. Which means on securing 50% instead of 55% you will be considered eligible.

The upper age limit for the Junior Research Fellowship is 28 years. A relaxation of 5 years is provided to the SC/ST/OBC and Physically Handicapped candidates.

Candidates with enough research experience can also get age relaxation of upto 5 years. Apart from this students possessing LLM degree will also get age relaxation.

For Lectureship post there is no upper age limit.

The written examination consists of three papers. The first paper basically checks the teaching aptitude, comprehension skills, reasoning ability, general awareness and the capability of the candidate to think divergently. The second paper remains loaded with short questions from the subject by you while the third paper will also contain questions from your chosen subject but all of them will be of descriptive type.

You need to secure 50% of marks in Paper I and Paper II only then your third paper will be evaluated. As for the SC/ST candidates the qualifying percentage is 40 percent.

To get the announcement about the NET/ SET examination keep an eye on the Employment News or check the UGC website from time to time.

Re: What is the procedure of SET-NET exam?

SET exam is conducted at the state level whereas NET is conducted at the national level. You will need to register for the same separately. To appear for the same you should be a post graduate. Also only those candidates who have secured minimum of 55% in PG are eligible to apply. You will have to opt for the subject based on your specialisation in PG. The last date to apply for the June exam is over, so you can enroll for the December exam.
