IAS stands for Indian Administrative Service This Examination is Union Public Service Commission in yearly ones........ As you know that IAS exam consist three stages;-  preliminary exam, mains exam and interview Preliminary exam consist General studied and Gk papers as well as your optional subjects. You must be choose those optional subject in which you have full interest or field related subject. All the best.............. |

IAS exam conducted by the UPSC(Union Public Service Commission) only once in a year. Eligibility details:- The applicant must have to complete a bachelor's degree from a recognised university. Final year graduation appearing students are also eligible. Applicant must be a citizen of India. The minimum age to apply this exam is 21 years and the maximum age limit is 30 years. There is a relaxation in upper age i.e 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC/ST candidates. Selection steps:- Preliminary Examination, Mains exam, Personal Interview. Number of attempts:- 4 times for General category, 7 times for OBC category, No limit for SC/ST candidates Optional subjects:-. Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary science, Anthropology, Biology, Chemistry, Civil-Engineering, Commerce accountancy, Economics, Electrical engineering, Geography, Geology, History, Law, Management, Mathematics, Mechanical engineering, Medical science, Philosophy, Physics, Political science and International Relations, Psychology, Public administration, Sociology, Statistics, Zoology. You have to select optional for second level of Civil Service exam. Name of that exam is IAS mains exam or Civil Service mains exam. No need to worry if you like any other optional subjects you're free to select them there is no such rule by UPSC that the students must not select other subjects apart from their background. so you are free to select any optional subject from the above list it may be of your background or not.
