Re: Difference between GRE subject and GRE General?

i have understood that GRE general test is for graduates going for post graduate studies in USA while GRE subject test is for students going for their Bachelors in any of the American universities.....i stand to be corrected though.

Re: Difference between GRE subject and GRE General?

Well, the general test is the one that everyone takes for grad school admissions. It has a quant section, a verbal section (both of those are multiple choice), and a writing section with 2 essays.

There are several different subject tests that are required for some majors, but not most. Depends on what you're planning to study.

Go to the official site, www.gre.org , for more info.

Good luck!!

Re: Difference between GRE subject and GRE General?

GRE's are centered around the US, so you may want to confirm that the GREs are the most appropriate tests for you to be taking.

the general GRE is a basic test in math and english writing that is applicable to all college graduates. Your main focus of study will likely be on vocabulary and grammar, especially for a science major the math should be fairly straight forwards.

The subject GRE you would take would likely be the biology subject test. This test will focus on biology, with questions geared only towards biology majors. It will reflect more on your actual knowledge of your major, and will be much more in depth.

For most US colleges you would need to take both, you should look at the specific universities in the UK you're applying to to figure out what they require.

Subject GRE tests are conducted by ETS and are meant to, as per ETS, "to help graduate school admission committees and fellowship sponsors assess the qualifications of applicants in specific fields of study”.
Subject GRE tests are subject specific, timed, multiple choice question tests and are conducted in Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, Bio chemistry, Computer Science, Psychology and English Literature.

If you are planning to seek admission in these subjects, it is strongly recommended that you appear in the respective subject gre test.
