If you want to know about hardware and software then the main difference between both is hardware is the physical parts of computer and software is the non-physical parts of computer. Printer,keyboard,mouse are the hardware of computer and antivirus,opearating system,memory are the software of computer. So operating system is a purely software. I think you get my answer. |

Re: Operating System is a Software or a Hardware? according to 1960's operating system is "the software that controls the hardware" in 1970's "a set of specialized programs"is called operating system. in 1980's "operating system is translated between user&system" 1990's "operating system is a interface between two user". but the operating system is managed the hardware and software resources, Memory and process memory management as well as fixed partition memory management. as per my concern operating system act like a manager between the system hardware and application software(like ms office) Bye. |

Its an interface between hardware and software.....we can understand it by taking some analogy....we even call it to be the platform to run software just as we need paper to write in the same way we need O.S. to run any software or to any hardware to interact with that software...I hope i made it a little bit clear to you .... |

Hardware are physical components that you can touch or see, e.g. monitor, keyboards, printers etc. |
