Engineering Services Exam(ESE)/IES Exams is conducted by UPSC
every year to make recruitments to 4 Categories.
Categories to which recruitments are made through ESE are :
1.Civil Engineering
2.Mechanical Engineering
3.Electrical Engineering
4.Electronics & Tele-communication Engineering

Tentative Dates:
Engineering Services Exam Notifictaion-16.03.2013
Last Date of Applications-15.04.2013
Engineering Services Exam-28.06.2013

Eligibility For ESE :

Age limit :
General Category-21-30yrs on 1st August of year of exam
OBC-21-33yrs
SC/ST-21-35yrs

Educational Qualification :
1.A degree in Engineering from a recognised university or equivalent.

2.M.Sc degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communications,
Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as special subjects
also acceptable for certain Services/posts only.

Candidates appearing at their engineering degree or equivalent examination are also eligible to compete.

Exam Scheme :

Paper I(Objective type)--General Ability Test---200 marks

Paper II & III(Objective type)--Civil Engineering,Mechanical Engineering,Electrical Engineering,Electronics & Tele-communication Engineering---200 marks for each paper

Paper IV & V(Conventional type)--Civil Engineering,Mechanical Engineering,Electrical Engineering,Electronics & Tele-communication Engineering---200 marks for each paper

Total marks for written Exams----2000 marks

Personality Test(Interview)----200 marks


So you can prepare according to exam pattern and follow the syllabus given by UPSC.

The Engineering Services Exam is conducted every year by the UPSC..

A candidate may appear for the Engineering Services Exam if :-

>> Candidate is within the age limit of 21-30 years..

>> OBC candidates must be within the age limit of 21-33 years

>> For SC/ST candidates the age limit is 21-35 years..

>> For physically disabled candidates..the age limit is 21-40 years..

>> The candidates must also have completed their B.E/B.Tech in any of the following streams :-
> Civil Engineering
> Mechanical Engineering
> Electronics and Communications Engineering
> Electrical Engineering


You are currently in your 5th sem and you must be at least in your 8th sem to appear for this exam..

The forms for the exam shall be releasing on 16th March,2013 and the last date to fill the form is 15th April,2013

The exam shall be conducted on 28th June,2013

I have attached some of the previous year question papers of IES Electronics and Communications and also its syllabus..

yes you can appear the IES exam. IES exam is conducted by UPSC (union public service commission)
Eligibility Criteria for IES

Should be completed degree or diploma in engineering & technology for following branch
Mechanical
Civil Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering
nationality- Indian
Age limit
age should be 21 to 30 years
age relaxation for OBC candidate 3 years
age relaxation for SC/ST candidate 5 years
