Students of which branches of engineering are eligible for giving IES exam?

Generally IES exam is equally good job like IAS,IPS etc.
But for IAS etc. only degree is the qualification where as for IES only below branches are eligible like: Civil Engineering,Mechanical Engineering.,Electrical Engineering and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering are applicable for attending the IES examination but Information Technology and Computer Science Engineering students are also eligible for the IES exam conducted by the UPSC.

Re: Which engineering branches are eligible to answer IES exam?

Dear Friend,

The Full Form Of IES Exam is Indian Engineering Services Exam. This Examination is conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission.

There is no barrier that only those candidates can appear for IES Exam who have completed Engineering with certain streams , these things are just the matter of past for the IES Exam.

In the year 2012 , the eligibility criteria has been changedand now all those canddiates can appear for the IES Exam who have completed B.Tech in any stream from any recognized college/university.

Candidates in final year of B.Tech can also appear for the exam.

* The candidates should keep in mind that they should not have any pending backlogs.

* The Age Limit :

a) For General Candidates : 21-30 yrs

b) For OBC Candidates : 21-33 yrs

c) For SC/ST Candidates : 21-35 yrs

So , if you want to appear for the IES Exam , then you need not to worry about these things and only try to fulfill the required eligibility criteria for the same.

This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query. Hope the information will help you to the extent you want.

Minimum Education Qualification required for IES exam
To appear for the IES examination, a candidate must have:

- Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959.

Provided that a candidate for the post of Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engineering Posts and Engineer Group 'A' in Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing/Monitoring Organisation) may possess any of the above qualifications or the qualification mentioned below namely:-

M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject.

NOTE-1—A candidate who has appeared at an examination the passing of which would render him educationally qualified for this examination, but has not been informed of the result, may apply for admission to the examination. A candidate who intends to appear at such a qualifying examination may also apply. Such candidates will be admitted to the examination, if otherwise eligible, but their admission would be deemed to be provisional and subject to cancellation, if they do not produce proof of having passed the requisite qualifying examination along with the detailed applications which will be required to be submitted by the candidates who qualify on the result of written part of the examination.

Re: Which engineering branches are eligible to answer IES exam?

Please note, it is Engineering service exam, not IES. IEas stands for Indian Economic Service.

Now Engineering Service exam is conducted for the following categories:

1.Civil Engineering
2.Mechanical Engineering.
3.Electrical Engineering
4.E&C Engineering

So, it is preferred that only students of the above branches appear for the exam as they will have topics in relation to their branch.
However if a student of any other engineering branch wants to appear then he can appear but he has to give the exam from one of the above subjects only.

I hope the information is clear.
