Merchant Navy is such a prestigious job. It is nice to hear that you want to join Merchant Navy. Merchant Navy is also known as Merchant Marine. For joining in Merchant Navy, contendors must have done courses like:- * M. E. Marine Engineering( 2 yrs course). * B. E. Marine Engineering( 4 yrs course). * B. Sc Nautical Science( 3 yrs course). The eligibility criteria required for Merchant Navy are prescribed as below:- * Completion of 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from any approved board. * Sex:- Both male and female. * Marital status:- Unmarried or single. * Age limit:- Not more than 20 yrs(on 1st September entry year). * Age relaxation:- 5 yrs for SC/ST contendors. * Nationality:- Indian. * Contendors must pass medical fitness test for sea service with eyesight 6/6 with no colour blindness. Re: Procedure to join Merchant Navy after 10th standard? Merchant Navy is a great job prospect for candidates who don't mind consistent traveling. The salary offered in the Merchant Navy is excellent and it comes with additional perks that even allows officers to bring their wives along the voyage. To get job in Merchant Navy your minimum qualification should be 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry and Maths subjects. Since you have only completed 10th, it would not be possible to apply for Merchant Navy. I will suggest completing the 12th standard with PCM subjects. After which you will have two choices. Either to take direct job of deck cadet in the Merchant Navy or complete graduation for better jobs. The salary of deck cadet is not upto the level of officer level jobs. Neither this job comes with any lucarative additional perks. While in the officer level jobs, the salary is good and additional perks are also great. In order to apply for the officer level jobs you must either do Marine Engineering or B.Sc in Nautical Science. Eligibility 1. You will first have to complete 12th with PCM from a recognized board. 2. Your age should not exceed 20 years. 3. The age limit for SC/ST is 25 years. 4. Only unmarried candidates are eligible. 5. You must clear medical tests regarding eyesight etc. 6. Apply for either B.Sc Nautical Science or Marine Engineering. Direct Job Procedure After completing 12th PCM you can apply for the deck cadet job as mentioned earlier by me. The next step would be to apply for job in some company. Upon selection you will be given 3 months pre-sea training arranged by the company. You can also apply for officer level jobs after completing B.Tech Mechanical/Electrical/Technology. But the candidate will have to undergo 9 months long pre sea course in marine engieering from MERI. |

Re: Procedure to join Merchant Navy after 10th standard? Well dear just after 10th career in Merchant Navy is not promising one. You have to first complete your 12th. Then you can move accordingly. For getting into Deck or Navigating department one has to start there career from post of "Deck Cadet" after that one will moves toward Third Officer which ultimately leads to Captain/Master in long time of 8-10 years work experiance. Qualification Required: One has to persue 3 years B.sc (Nautical science) alongwith 12 months of onship training. Or these days this B.sc degre gets split into parts by maximum institutes such that- 1 year Diploma in Nautical science, 1 1/2 years Onboard ship training and 6 months pre-sea training. Eligibility: 12th (PCM) with at least 60% aggregate. However, few Institutes also accept students with 55% aggregate. For Ex- Trident college of marine technology, West Bengal. Age Limit: 20 years for those who has +2, while its 22-23 years for B.sc Dgree holder. For Getting into Engine Department, one has to start career from the post of "Fifth or Junior Engineer" which ultimately lead to Chief Engineer. Qualification Required: A degree in Marine or Mechanical or electrical Engineering from a recognised Institute. MArine engineering holder will get in directly while Mechanical and Elecrical has to undergone 10 months Pre-Sea Training in MArine engineering, which is either offered by recruiting company or candidate has to born itself. Eligibility: Nothing different from what is required to be an Engineer. Age Limit: 25 years For Rating Department For Deck Rating: Any bachelor degree(as it is prefered) with 1 year or 6 months pre-sea training. Age Limit: 21 and 23 years. Engine Rating: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering alongwith 12 or 6 months pre-sea training. Age Limit: 21 years. Catering Rating: Any background will do. However, background in hotel management with experience in the hospitality business will be a great help. In this field you need to upgrade your skills every nine months or so, through proficiency development or skill development courses in the maritime academies and pass examinations conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS). This will be your key to new contracts. Age Limit: 25 years for MBA holders. Regards ~Faiyaz~ |
