In GATE generally question come from the basic knowledge in your stream. They never ask question which required long calculation. Questions are generally from basic knowledge. IN GATE examination there are generally near about 25 marks from Mathematics which is generally easier than the technical question. So you must be well prepared in mathematics subject. Generally in GATE examination cut off marks set near about 25 marks. So if you are good in mathematics and able to answer all the questions from mathematics then it will be more easy to clear the cut off only preparing in mathematics.

There are also 15marks aptitude question in GATE examination now a days. May be this part sometime not so much easy. But surely if you can prepare a little bit you can get 10 marks easily from aptitude questions. After that prepare for technical subject. If you well prepared for technical subject then overall you will get very good score in GATE examination.

Generally if you get near about 45 score in GATE examination then you will get opportunity to take admission in in M.Tech in good institution and you will get call from different organization those are recruiting from GATE score. I think you will not get much more opportunity as OBC candidates. Generally reservations are for SC, ST and physically handicapped. Mainly you have to compete with the general candidates. Best of luck.
