Re: Requirements for doing Genetic Engineering course after 12th? You must pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology to become eligible for Genetic Engineering course. You have to appear for an entrance examination to become eligible for admission into a top college for Genetic Engineering courses. The entrance will have questions from the subjects you have studied in your 10+2. So you must revise whatever you have studied in the 11th and 12th classes. Genetic Engineering means to deliberate modification of the characters of an organism by the manipulation of its Genetic Material. Genetic Engineering (GE) is an advanced branch of Science which involves a wide range of techniques used in changing the genetic material in the DNA code in a living organism. Genetic Engineering involves organism’s genetic material (DNA) by artificial methods. Duration of this course is 4 years. The eligibility is 10+2 or equivalent examination, with Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics as well as genetics as part of the biology. 2) A Bachelors degree in science or molecular biology is also eligible for the course. Re: Requirements for doing Genetic Engineering course after 12th? after 12 if you want to do B.Tech in genetic engineering then you must have mathematics,physics, chemistry and biology(probable) in class 12. then you have to appear in engineering entrance examination and after securing good position you will able to take admission in good institution. but there are only few institution in india which offer genetic engineering course. so it is better to take admission through AIEEE examination as it is an all india basis engineering entrance examination. best wishes. |

Requirements are a science stream in class 12 (PCM, PCB or PCMB), and that is all. The scope is growing day-by-day. Foreign companies are looking for genetic engineers due to greater scope of research in the USA, UK, Germany, Japan etc. |

Dear friend, As i am a biotechnology student, to the best of my knowledge, genetic engineering is not being offered as a separate discipline at under graduation level soon after the completion of your 12th. Finish your under graduation in biology related courses like biotechnology, microbiology, genetics and biochemistry so that you can pursue your genetic engineering at post graduation level as a separate discipline. There is a growing demand for this course. Genetic engineering is all about changing the characteristics of an organism by doing the manipulations in its genetic material. These people have opportunities in pharmaceutical industries, chemical industries and biotech companies and in r&d departments of various public sector and government sector companies. they may also go for teaching. The basic eligibility criteria for a graduate degree (BE / B.Tech) is 10+2 or equivalent examination, with Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics as well as genetics as part of the biology OR a bachelors degree in science or molecular biology. |

Also you will need to appear for the various engineering entrance exams. Also you should have a minimum of a first class in your 12th standard. |

Remember One thing for doing Engineering in any branch you must have basic subject of MATHS. and for doing graduate degree (BE / B.Tech) the basic eligibility criteria is 10+2 or equivalent examination, with Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. That says that biology and maths are cumpolsury to do Genetic Engineering .. Most institutes do not offer courses in Genetic Engineering as a special discipline but as a subsidiary in biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry streams. Genetics is offered at the undergraduate level, at Kakatiya University, Warangal Osmania University, Hyderabad Some of the universities which offer genetic Engineering courses at postgraduate and doctorate levels are Bio-Informatics Centre of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi, Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur and Delhi), Delhi University, University of Calcutta, MKU-Coimbatore, Birla Institute of Technology (Pilani Rajasthan), University of Lucknow, Jadavpur University (Kolkata, West Bengal) etc. |

Generally Life Sciences department of a university runs BSc degree in Genetic Engineering and there the eligibility criteria is 12th with Biology background but if you get B.Tech in Genetic Engineering in some engineering college then you can get admission with Maths background too. But there are very less colleges in India that offer BTech Genetic engineering so if you want to build a career in this field and you are not yet in 12th then I would recommend you to take Biology in 12th. If you are already in 12th with Maths stream then you can take admission in BTech Biotechnology and then you can go for a MTech in Genetic Engineering. Actually, Genetic Engineering is a very specific branch so number of colleges offering MTech in Genetic Engineering is much more than those offering BTech in Genetic Engineering. Thank You |
