The B.R. Ambedkar university has got the approval from the AICTE [All India Council For Technical Education] to offer technical degree courses. The University, initially known as Andhra Pradesh Open University and after renamed as Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University on 7th December 1991 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh (APOU Act, 1992). BR Ambedkar university is approved by AICTE.The establishment of this University, the first of its kind in India. Total number of students on rolls in all the programs is about 4,50,000 and total study centres are about 200. This university follows a multi-media teaching-learning approach which broadly comprises self-learning print material, supported by audio, video lessons and regular broadcast of lessons through All India Radio. On Sundays the University has Interactive Teleconferencing on the Regional Channel of Doordarshan. This is over all a good university approved by AICTE. |

The University has approx 450 affiliated Institutes/Colleges and 30 residential Departments / Institutes spread out in its four residential campus viz Papliwal Park campus, Khandari campus, Chalesar Campus and Khandelwal Kothi. |
