Re: Is M.Sc and M.Tech equivalent? Difference between M.Tech and MSc(Tech)? M.tech (Biotech) is far better than M.Sc. (Biotech) Join M.tech after B.tech or M.sc. but true thing is that, one will not get core branch of engineering after M.sc as it is not engineering background. Actually IIT or any engineering college, university provides a separate course for M.sc pass candidates for giving them only a taste of engineering. One can opt only for CS IT or Biotechnology. In true words it's not pure engineering degree as compare to B.tech or M.tech in any branch. In reality its a chance for aspirants who could not crack JEE or AIEEE to grab a seat in B.tech in premium institutes. NOTE-If anybody having any doubt just follow the IIT sites for proper judgement and guidance and always be honest to you. In my view nothing is small or big it's one's choice what one wants to be. *** I'm pursuing my M.tech from IIT roorkee after B.tech(Biotech). |

Re: Is M.Sc and M.Tech equivalent? Difference between M.Tech and MSc(Tech)? There are many combinations or possibilities regarding B.tech or M.tech admission as per requirement to shape one's future... 1.Join B.tech after 10 2 in 1 year as fresher or join after B.sc,Poly in B.tech 2 nd year (lateral entry). 2.Join M.tech after B.tech or M.sc. but true thing is that, one will not get core branch of engineering after M.sc as it is not engineering background. Re: Is M.Sc and M.Tech equivalent? Difference between M.Tech and MSc(Tech)? Msc(tech) is clearly not equivalent to Mtech.Mtech is an engineering post graduate degree whre as Msctech is science degree. In isro if ur call letter says u will be given promotion after two years then only it is considered as equivalent.anyways in isro to be considered for promotion u need to do 1/3 of the mtech course in isro as the rule clearly tell it is 4 2 engineering degree not 3 3 science degree. |

Re: Is M.Sc and M.Tech equivalent? Difference between M.Tech and MSc(Tech)? Hi dear, The difference between M. Sc and M Tech is same as the difference between B.Sc and B Tech M. Sc is a masters course, which is next form of B.Sc. Its not as expensive as M Tech, and most of the colleges don't have any entrance exam for this. Just like B. Sc, if you do well in your graduation and score more than 60%, you can easily study M. Sc Whereas in M Tech, its a tougher course. Its of 2 years duration and its of more value than M. Sc. Its a much more expensive than M.Sc also. So M tech is of more value in the market as compared to M.Sc. Thanks |

Re: Is M.Sc and M.Tech equivalent? Difference between M.Tech and MSc(Tech)? Both M.Sc and M.Tech are equivalent programs and one is not better than the other at least on paper. But the public perception and the perception amongst students (as evinced by the trends) is that MTech is better than MSc. Here are the differences as under- 1. MTech and MSc need ~60 credits (or a scaled value, depending on the institution) 2. MTech is 2 years but MSc is 1 1/2 years to 3 years. 3. MTech by definition is a course program, where the emphasis is on advanced coursework spanning various areas; MSc by definition is a research program, where the emphasis is on doing ORIGINAL work in one particular area. 4. MTech credits is split as ~40 coursework and ~20 project; MSc credits split as ~20 coursework and ~40 thesis. 5. MTech courses span different areas; MSc coursework is typically chosen to provide knowledge in your chosen area of research 6. MTech project (~1 year) is not necessarily research oriented; MSc thesis is research-oriented |

Re: Is M.Sc and M.Tech equivalent? Difference between M.Tech and MSc(Tech)? It must be understood that one is not better than the other – both are equivalent programs. At least on paper. But the public perception and the perception amongst students (as evinced by the trends) is that MTech is better than MS. iIdisagree; both cannot be compared. They’re like the cliched apples and oranges. Is apple better because its sweet? Does it mean being tangy is bad? No such comparison can be made. How to choose between MS and MTech Decide what you want first. If you’re interested in working in one particular area, then MS is the thing for you. If you are not able to decide and want to taste different areas in CS, then MTech is the thing for you - MTech and MS need ~60 credits (or a scaled value, depending on the institution) - MTech is 2 years; MS is 1 1/2 years to 3 years - MTech by definition is a course program, where the emphasis is on advanced coursework spanning various areas; MS by definition is a research program, where the emphasis is on doing ORIGINAL work in one particular area. - MTech credits is split as ~40 coursework and ~20 project; MS credits split as ~20 coursework and ~40 thesis - MTech courses span different areas; MS coursework is typically chosen to provide knowledge in your chosen area of research - MTech project (~1 year) is not necessarily research oriented; MS thesis is research-oriented - MTech in India is equivalent to an “MS with project” option in the US MS in India is equivalent to an “MS with thesis” option in the US Source: http://entrance-exam.net/forum/general-discussion/m-sc-m-tech-equivalent-difference-between-m-tech-msc-tech-381145.html#ixzz23c0D73Yp |
