GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. This exam is given by those candidates who wants to do post graduation in engineering. GATE exam is jointly conducted by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology.

Following candidates can apply for this exam:-

To sit for this exam you need to have a bachelor's degree holder in Engineering/Technology/Architecture. The duration of the course should not be less than four years.
If you have a master's degree science or mathematics or computer science or statistics then also you are eligible. Even final year candidates can also give this exam.
If you are in the third or final year of a four year integrated master's programme in engineering or technology then also you are eligible.

The notification of GATE 2014 is yet to be released and so i am writing here for you the expected dates of GATE 2014:-

GATE 2014 Notification Release Date: Mid of September 2013
Last Date for submitting GATE 2014 Application Form: End October 2013
Gate 2014 Exam Date: Second Sunday of February 2014
GATE 2014 Result Announcement: Mid of March 2014
M.Tech admissions 2014: From mid of March 2014 till July 2014

Gate examination is conducted by Indian Institute of Science and Indian Institute of Technology Once in a year .
