You can appear for the Indian Administrative Service even if you decides to stay in United States. The Union Public Service Commission do allows NRIs to appear for the Civil Services Examination.

However if you decided to move to United States, then you can not appear for any Coaching center to prepare for the Civil Services Examination. Under the circumstances you will have to prepare on your own.

It would be better to buy some books from India before leaving to United States. You should get the NCERT Books for 12th standard to help you prepare for the exam. Apart from that books related to optional subjects should also be purchased before leaving India.

You also have to keep yourself updated with what has been happening around the world but especially in India. This should not be any problem even if you decides to stay in United States. Several news channels from India are available throughout the world.

Besides you can read the online versions of Indian newspapers to keep yourself updated about what is being happening in India. Apart from that you can download previous years questions papers from Internet. These are made available here on this forum as well.
