Re: Previous 3 year Question Papers for ACIO Grade II Exam? As you may know that the full form of ACIO is Assistant Central Intelligence Officer. This is a post in India's oldest intelligence agency called the Intelligence Bureau. What may sound surprising to some is that Intelligence Bureau was established by the British during the 19th century. The aim behind establishing Intelligence Bureau was to create a agency that could monitor the movement of Russian troops in Afghanistan. At that time there was fear among the Britishers that Russia was planning an invasion of India to force England out. That obviously never happened and later India got independence and that brought the biggest challenge of Intelligence Bureau which was now India's external intelligence agency. Due to losing a lot of manpower as Britishers left India, Intelligence Bureau was incapable of bringing good results. It showed as IB failed to gather any intelligence during 60s when India suffered two wars with China and Pakistan. It lead to creation of new external intelligence agency called R&AW which took over the external intelligence gathering responsibility. The new role of IB was to gather internal intelligence as India first faced terrorism in Punjab followed by terrorism in rest of the country over Jammu and Kashmir issue. Today IB is doing a great job because of brave ACIO. The exact role of Assistant Central Intelligence Officer is not known. However it is believed that ACIO gathers intelligence with the help of local informants. At the same time ACIO also taps phones of possible suspects. ACIO Eligibility 1. Only Indian citizens can apply for ACIO. 2. The age limit is 27 years with some relaxation for reserve category. 3. A graduation degree in any stream is required to appear in ACIO exam.
