Definitely it is possible to prepare for any exam for yourself. One need only good guidance and littel push for success. You can get the guidance easily in the coaching institute. You can contact to the people who have already clear it for more information about the exam.

hi friend,

In my opinion, it depends on you and how you study because i have seen many guys who failed to crack iit even after taking coaching in prestigious institutions, hence it is advisable that self-study is the key to success not coaching. If your concepts are clear in class XI then you might not face any difficulty in the mains. But for advance, i advice you to opt for NCERT books rather than some stupid coaching materials. after finishing NCERT question, you might go for R.C Mukherjee for chemistry and D.C Pandey or H.C Verma for physics and also take some maths supplement...then you try to solve yesteryears iit question papers....i hope this will help you out...Best of Luck!

Re: Is it possible to prepare for IIT JEE exam without any coaching? Books to be referred? I am in class 12th

hello, here's my tip
there are a lot of coaching centres and dozens of people studying day and night but don't get afraid all u need to do is completely understand ur concepts and remember all formulas coz u don't get enough time to derive them in exam hall and more importantly have faith in yourself motivation is essential and for the books already mentioned above is fine but do a lot of practice papers before exam to boost ur confidance and finally hardwork is necessary because competition is high but everybody can crack iit jee, with proper guidance all the best

Re: Is it possible to prepare for IIT JEE exam without any coaching? Books to be referred? I am in class 12th

I think it is a blessing in disguise that you are not enrolled in a coaching institute, prepare well for your board exams so that you have a good chance of scoring 95% in PCM.
For JEE/AIEEE,since there is just one exam now first do chapter thoroughly at school-level and then practice from reference books. This way you will ensure that you are preparing well for boards as well and JEE too.
In maths do as much calculus and coordinate geometry as you can.
In chemistry ensure that your class 12 is solid since I personally found it to be much easier than class 11.organic chemistry is not difficult at all if you have done NCERT well.
In physics mechanics(especially rotation) should be revised right till the end, electrostatics is the most important part from class 12.thermodynamics is also important.do optics from NCERT since there ar not more than 4-5 questions and all are basically ncert level.

I joined fiitjee on a scholarship in class 11 but they ruined my IIT prep and i messed up my school marks too,so thenn i concentrated on boards and scored 95.2% and even got a rank in iitjee though it was useless.

May the force be with you!

Preparation For IIT JEE

You can definitely prepare on your own for IIT JEE if you want but make sure you have someone's guidance because everything else can be obtained from the books but getting advice from an experienced person is a rare thing to get..

I would advice you to go through the following books for your preparations :-

These are some of the books which will ensure your success in any entrance exam..

I have also attached some past papers of IIT JEE along with this post for your reference..

You can go through them and I hope they help you getting acquainted with the pattern..

Also, I would suggest you to join the test series of any famous institute so that you know your position in the all india competition before actually appearing for the exam..

all the best..

With Warm Regards

IIt-JEE is one of the toughest entrance examinations in India. Cracking IIT-JEE is definitely a tremendous feat. Since you are already in the 12th standard, and as you say, that you are a good student, you should first strengthen your grasp on the theoretical part of the given topics. But you should refer to the following books for preparing for IIT-JEE.
Mathematics-M.L.Khanna;S.L.Loney;R.D.Sharma
Physics-H.C. Verma;I.E. Irodov;Resnick,Halliday
Chemistry-K.L.Chugh;I.L.Finar;R.C.Mukherjee;J.D.Lee
You can also refer to the MCQ series for IIT-JEE published by Bharti Bhawan Publishers.
Best of luck.

Re: Is it possible to prepare for IIT JEE exam without any coaching? Books to be referred? I am in class 12th

Yes, it is possible. But you must work hard. Just try to follow this rules.

1. Read you text book detailed and several times. As it is the main syllabus for any entrance-exam. So do not neglect it.

2. Write more. After read any chapter, practice the questions & problems for more advanced on this chapter.

3. Practice previous years questions paper, so that you can understand the question format.

4. Use some best reference books. But not more, as it will confused you.
You can use, 'mtg', 'Pradeeps', 'Dinesh' etc note books for better preparation.

5. Make a time table, for which subject how long you read.

6. Avoid computer games, internet etc when exam held or coming.

7, At last, believe on yourself, that you can do anything.

All the best.

Re: Is it possible to prepare for IIT JEE exam without any coaching? Books to be referred? I am in class 12th

Hello Friend,

Yes it is absolutely possible to crack IIT-JEE on your own but it is very tough.
You need to stay focused which is the most difficult thing when studying on your own as compared to when you have joined a coaching institute as there you will see your competitors and also the coaching guys will motivate you to push a little more where you might relax when studying on your own.

Also another thing is that the coaching people will focus on your weakness as well as those topics that are more important for the exam and this is the basic reason why they get the results out from the students better. On your own you might try hard and long on some topics which are considered not that important for the exam.

But all this doesn't mean that every candidate that cracks IIT has had coaching from outside but you can be sure that most of them have had it.

So if you can manage then no problem else just join a coaching as it will surely help you succeed.

Best wishes..
