First of all you must practice the old papers of IES . If the questions are not repeated the pattern might just be the same. I am referring to the marks distribution and weightage. So old papers are very important.

For current affairs pick up some good magazines of last 4-6 months. Some good ones are Kurushetra, The Chronicles, The Frontline etc.

Also you should keep yourself updates even with newspapers if you like.
If you wish to refer to newspaper then The Hindu will be a good choice

You will have to refer to the NCERT books for the social science part Specially class 9th and 10th geography books for Indian geography preparation. People also study out Atlas for Geography

For World Geography you can use Gohcheng Leon's books

For polity can refer to books by Lakshmikanth. and Constitution of India by Subhash Kashyap.

A major part of medieval and ancient Indian history is available in NCERT history books .But you might not find much of Modern history for that you can refer Spectrum Series book.
Modern history holds the highest weightage out of three and is also easier than other two

Some NCERT books for history are
Ancient India - R.S. sharma
Medieval India - Satish Chandra
Modern India - Bipin Chandra

You can also refer to books like Made easy publications, Gk publications etc.

Some questions are asked almost every year from reforms, cultures, natural resources developmental programmes, budgeting etc.

But yes Again if you are short of time then three most important parts will be
NCERT books
Magazines and newspaper for current affairs
and last 10 years solved papers for which you can refer to many publications like Made easy publications and Gk publications

You should read the following for the proper preparartion of general studies:

1. Read New Papers daily for regular updates
2. Indian History and Culture
3. Geography
4. Indian Polity
5. Science
6. Statistics

You should start reading from 10 to 10+2 (NCERT) books then read further editions. like Vaid's study notes for GK, P.M. Bakshi- Indian Contitution etc.
