Re: What is Dendrochronology Dendrochronology is the science of dating wood by a study of annual rings. Everyone knows that when you cut down a tree the cut surface shows a series of concentric rings, and that one of these rings is added each year as the tree grows. The lighter part of the ring is the summer growth and the darker part is the winter growth. Hence you can date a tree by counting the rings. |

Re: What is Dendrochronology Hello, Dendrochronology is the dating of past events (climatic changes) through study of tree ring growth. Therefore, In other words Dendrochronology is called Tree Ring Dating. The climatic changes or patterns in specific geographic areas can be traced by the study of old living trees, that is called dendrochronology. Dendrochronology can date the time at which tree rings were formed, in many types of wood. Good Bye |

This has three main areas of application: paleoecology, where it is used to determine certain aspects of past ecologies. archaeology, where it is used to date old buildings, etc.. and radiocarbon dating, where it is used to calibrate radiocarbon ages.

Re: What is Dendrochronology hi Dendrochronology: dating a wooden object on the basis of the annual rings of the tree. This is one of the most accurate ways to date an ancient object. Dendrochronology ("tree chronology") is essentially a simple method, and as a child we all have done dendrochronological research. When a tree is felled, it is possible to count the growth rings, and because we know that a tree makes a new ring every year, we can establish in which year the tree was planted. But although a tree makes a new ring every year, not every annual ring is the same. In wet and warm years, trees grow well, in cold and dry years hardly at all. A thin annual ring therefore is an indication for a cold year and a thick ring is prove that the year was warm. Since the summers and winters of consecutive years are never completely the same, the rings of trees show an irregular pattern: thick and thin rings alternate with each other without any particular system. This irregular pattern is expressed in a dendrochronological curve: along the vertical axis, we can plot the thickness of the ring, and along the horizontal axes, we can plot the years. Now it becomes possible to count backwards for very, very long periods. |

Dendrochronology is also called as the tree ring method. Though there are Possible advantages to this method there are many disadvantages also.
