Re: Procedure to join Merchant Navy course after completion of B.Sc? Yes it is possible for you to apply for the Merchant Navy. You can apply for the deck cadet for which qualification requirement is 12th with PCM subjects. You can directly apply for the deck cadet job and if a company selects you, the next step will be 3 months long pre sea training. It is usually arranged by the company. However if your intention is officer level jobs then I am afraid you made the wrong course choice. But still it will be possible although you will have to study further. Instead of Bachelor of Science, you should have taken the Marine Engineering course after finishing 12th standard. However if you completed B.Sc in Nautical Science then there is no need to pursue any other course. You will get officer level job on the basis of this degree itself. It is advised for students who want to pursue Merchant Navy to either pursue B.Sc Nautical Science or Marine Engineering. To do so they need to meet the criteria. Eligibility 1. Finish 12th with PCM subjects. 2. Age limit is 20 years. 3. Five years relaxation for SC/ST. 4. Only unmarried are accepted. 5. Physical criteria like 150cm minimum height and 6/6 vision. However since you have finished B.Sc what you should do is apply for the B.Tech course through Lateral Entry Scheme. This scheme is offered to Diploma and B.Sc degree holders. You must apply for lateral entry admission in one of these streams of Engineering - Marine/Electrical/Mechanical/Technology. Apart from Marine Engineers, Electrical/Mechanical/Technology can also take apply for the job in Merchant Navy. However in admission to these three courses you will also have to go through 9 months long pre sea course in marine engineering from MERI. |

Age limit for candidates is 16 years to 19.5 years while training. Selection is based upon : Cut of marks in Exam.. Medical and fitness test Interviews........ Thank you |
