UPSC comprises of three sections Preliminary Examination which covers objective type questions, Mains which is subjective type questions and personal interview questions. For eligibility part, aspirant’s age limit should be between 19 to 40 years. Relaxation is also given for SC/ST candidates of 2 years as per the government norms. Candidate should be Indian and must possess a graduation degree. For IPS, there are physical requirements too. Height – Male 165 cm Pahari Male (general also) & ST (not the SC/ OBC) – 160 cm Female 150 cm Pahari Female (general also) & ST (not SC/ OBC)- 145 cm Chest – Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm. Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm. Eye sight – 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye. 6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye. Near vision J 1 for good eye. J2 for worst eye. The age limit has to be 21 years minimum till 30 years maximum. Incase ofOBCs, it is 33 and 35 for SCs/STs . |

Re: What is the qualification to write IAS or IPS entrance exam? There are no separate Entrance Exams to be placed in IAS or IPS. Instead there is a common written exam to be placed in any of the civil service in India which is Civil Services Exam. This Exam is going to be conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) once in a year. The complete selection procedure would involve Civil Services Aptitude Test Civil Services Main Exam Interview Here is the required qualification for the candidates to apply for this Exam. Academic Qualification : One should have completed Graduation with any of the stream from a recognized university. Candidates who are pursuing final year of Graduation are also eligible to apply for this Exam but they should be able to provide the proof of passing in Graduation when they appear for Interview. Age criteria : All the candidates should possess an age of 21-30 years. Relaxation in upper age limit upto 3 years for the candidates of OBC category and upto 5 years for the candidates of SC or ST category. For the candidates with physical disabilities, the relaxation in upper age limit will be upto 10 years. Number of attempts : For the candidates of General category : Maximum of 4 attempts For the candidates of OBC category : Maximum of 7 attempts For SC or ST category : No limit on number of attempts As you are pursuing Engineering course, you can apply for Civil Services Exam once you have done with your Engineering course. All the candidates must complete degree in any discipline from a recognised university by Indian government Age limits : 1. The minimum age limit is 21 years 2. The maximum age limit for open category is 30 years 3. The maximum age limit for OBC category is 33 years 4. The maximum age limit for SC/ST is 35 years 5. The maximum age limit is 5 years for ex - service men 6. The maximum age limit for blind, dump and orthopadically handicapped is 10 years Number of appearance of the exam : 1. All the open category candidates can write the civil servce exams only for 4 times 2. All the backward categories can write only 7 times 3. All the SC, ST candidates can write as many times they want Physical fitness : 1. Physical fitness tests are taken in the training period so having fitness is compulsory 2.
