What is the difference between psychologist & psychiatrist?

Basic Difference Between Psychologist And Psychiatrist -

A Psychiatrist is a Medical Doctor And A Psychologist is Not A Doctor.

A Psychologist Is A Scientist Trained In Psychology.

A Psychiatrist Is A Physician Who Specialises In Psychiatry.

So, Psychiatrist Are Medically Trained Doctors Who Have Chosen to Specialise in Treating Mental Disorders.

And Anyone Who Has Obtained A Psychology Degree Is Entitled To Call Themselves a Psychologist.

PSYCHOLOGIST:deals with the depressed patients by counselling and psycotherapy.

He holds a doctoral degree [phd] but he is not a medical doctor[md].

PSYCHIATRIST: performs psycotherapy and also prescribes medications and can also perform electro convulsive therapy[ECT].

He is a medical doctor.

Re: What is the difference between psychologist & psychiatrist?

I will give a basic clarity,
see psyche means mind.
logy means study &
iatriea mean medical healing.
So you might have got what is psychology (study of mind ie basically illness due to mind)
and Psychiatrist means medical healing of mind related diseases (mental & emotional disorders)

Re: What is the difference between psychologist & psychiatrist?

Dear friend,

more or less both of these professionals help to cure mental or mind-related problems of human life, through some therapy procedures and counsellings.

But there are some points where these two fields surely differs.

The educational background is the first thing to find for this difference.

A psychiatrist has a degree in medicine and a psychologist has a doctoral-level degree in psychology, that is a psychologist is not an M.D but a psychiatrist is an M.D.

For this, psychiatrists can prescribe medication, while psychologists cannot.

Hope now you can trace the differences..

All the best!

The simplest way to describe the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist is that a psychologist primarily aids the depressed patient by counseling and psychotherapy. A psychiatrist may also perform psychotherapy; but, in addition, can prescribe medications and perform ECT (electroconvulsive therapy). A psychiatrist is a medical doctor. A psychologist may hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) and be called "doctor"; but, is not a medical doctor (M.D.).

Difference between psychologist & psychiatrist

(1)

Pschologist, are the person who Councels the patient with problem of Dipress, lack of confidance etc. and if requires then carry out some therapies like- Psycotherapy for there betterment.

Psychiatrist, are the person/doctor who will treat the patient, with all his braing related diesease, will prescribe medicines, and if necessary will forward it to Neurosurgeons in case of any surgery.

(2)

One can become Psychologist after persuing MA/M.sc and P.hd in the subject of Psyghology.

For becoming a Psychiatrist one need to persue, MBBS with specialisation in Psychiatry, means they are complete Doctors.

(3)

Psychology is a General degree.

Psychiatry is a medical dergee.

So, the things areclear now, for becoming Psychiatrist you have to persue MBBS. But since you are already a BA (psychology) passed, better to go with the same and persue upto P.hd for better career possibilities.

Re: What is the difference between psychologist & psychiatrist?

the basic difference between psychologist and psychiatrist is that the psychologist knows the psychology/mentality of the person but the psychiatrist is one who cures the person who is not mentally fit.
as your subject in ba is psychology and both of these fields are related you can be a psychiatrist in future.
as far as english is concerned you have to work on grammer in your writing and speaking and i am telling this by reading your question. and if you really want to speak english good then you have to increase your vocabulary of english that means you have to increase the collection of words you know.
good luck
