In the civil service main examination you have to choose a subject which you have studied in graduation. As you have studied Information Technology then surely you can take Computer Science as one of your subject. So go for it. Best Wishes..... |

Re: Can an IT student choose Computer science as a subject in UPSC exam? There is no option subject as Computer Science, so you can not take CS as an optional subject while applying for UPSC (IAS) examination. Also if you are applying for IES examination, CS is not the subject you will be allowed to choose. So, you have to select any other subject of choice. I would suggest you to select the subject related to CS ,ie, Electronics and telecommunication for IES examination. For subject informations and further details you can visit the official website of UPSC: http://www.upsc.gov.in/ |

Re: Can an IT student choose Computer science as a subject in UPSC exam? It is a must to select a subject which you have studied during graduation. Since you are from the IT background you can select computer science if was one of the subjects you studied during graduation. You can appear for the exam whilst in your final year. Make sure that you clear the exams at the time of joining. Also appear for the exam only after you are over 21years of age as there is a minimum age criteria. |
